Pet Food Recipes

Homemade pet food recipes are fun to make and healthier than many of the store bought versions. Start with selecting foods that are healthy for your pet using fresh, natural ingredients which will result in great tasting food you pooch and kitty will love. Dogs, like humans are omnivores and need a balance of vegetables, grains and proteins.

Here are some pet food recipes to aid you in your journey to tasty pooch making cookies. You are sure to get two paws up.

Basic Pet Cookies

(A favorite of both Dogs and Cats) Yield approx. 2 dozen. Servings 12.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups wheat germ
  • 3 (2.5 ounce) jars strained beef or chicken baby food
  • 1 tablespoon water or you can use beef or chicken bouillon for a tastier treat!

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In medium bowl, mix the wheat germ, baby food and water together. Add more or bouillon if needed to form the dough. Roll dough into 1 inch balls, flatten slightly and place on aluminum foil and cookie sheet. Bake for 18-23 minutes.

Good base substitutes can be oats, peanut butter, shredded cheese, wheat flour, eggs. Have fun and make some dog bone or heart shapes!

Peanut Butter Biscuits

These are a hit!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup milk

Directions

Preheat oven 375 degrees. Combine flour and baking powder in one bowl. Combine milk, peanut butter and honey in another and mix well. Stir the peanut butter mixture into the flour mixture. Knead dough and roll out on floured surface to 1/4 inch tickness. Cut biscuits into desired shapes. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes.

Beefy Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup milk 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cups corn or vegetable oil
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
  • 3 (2.5 ounce) jars strained beef baby food
  • 3/4 cup boiling water

Directions

Dissolve bouillon cube in the boiling water and preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine dry ingredients in one bowl. Add milk, egg, strained beef baby food and beef bouillon. mix well and knead dough for 1 minute. Roll out on floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out your shapes and place on cookie sheet. Bake 30 minutes. Your pets are gonna love these recipes.
