As a pet sitter I would like to think that I am somewhat knowledgable about pets but about a week and a half ago, actually the day before I was suppose to leave for my mini-vacation to the mountains Bentley my Maltese was vomitting and had blood in his stool. Imagine how upset I was. I guess I should have paid better attention to his diet but he has been throwing up a time or two here and there and eating grass about 2 days prior. I thought he had a upset tummy. Don't we all? Isn't that what we are taught? Well it continued throughout the night until he pooped in my bathroom and I actually got to look at it. Alarming! I wanted to cry. What was wrong with my little Boo and is he going to be ok? This was ate 3AM. I kept him in the bed with me for the rest of the night while getting up and down because he was clearly upset. He seems to pant when he needs to go outside. Now it is Monday morning and I was suppose to go to work. Start a new position in a new location to say the least. I called out saying my dog was ill. I called the vet and brought him in around 9:30am. The Doc took a brief look at him, said he was not dehydrated. If you don't know how to tell, what you do is pull the skin and if it does not go back right away then they may be de-hydrated. That would not be a good sign but he was fine. He took his temperture and in doing that he noticed blood on the thermometer. He did a Fecal float and then gave him 2 medications. Reglan and Metronidazole 250mg. It's amazing how the bills racks up. It was ok thought. 10 days later and he seems to be fine. Are you wondering what the diagnosis ( so to speak) he said when dog this type vomit for a period of time that it is common for diahrea in the stool. I don't know but that is what he said. Bentley seems to be back to his old self. I will post pictures of the little Boo soon. I wish I had taken him on the trip. I did however get a call from one of my new customers that I got through the Thanksgiving week. Wanting me to watch their two dogs for a few days over Christmas but unfortunatley I an going away. As I mentioned before, It is tuff trying to go away during the holidays. I can't tell you how much $ I have turned down. Next time I will hire someone. Right now I am referring the business to a friend. Other than that, Bentley is going away to a pet sitter but he has not been feeling very well. He has an upset tummy. I don't know why. I hope it goes away by tomorrow because I leave very early Tuesday ;0) I should be packing right now. Back to working on page 53, pet food coupons. This is a good one for everyone. Its has been windy day here in Florida and Bentley my maltese has been acting a bit skidish. I'm thinking of writing another page under pet behaviors that has something to do with pets and weather. I got another call today for a pet sitting job over the holidays, this has been the busiest season for me and I am loving it. The toughest part about being a pet sitter is that you risk losing income if you, yourself decide to go away over any holiday as I am doing over this Christmas. I have to keep calling a friend of mine who is a pet sitter and give her the potential clients numbers. Ahh..but a week in a cabin alone with my honey makes it all worth it. I have a customer that is to call me over the weekend to go do a "Meet & Greet" with her 2 Golden Retrievers. Well back to writting another page.
